Comparing three wikis with their strengths and weaknesses

Choosing the right tool for knowledge management is no easy task, after all, everyone uses it on a daily basis and manages all of your knowledge!

There are a lot of solutions on the market. The market leaders seem to be shining on some points, but are disappointing in other areas.

So let's take a closer look at Phonemos, Notion, and Confluence.

Phonemos, the new solution from Switzerland

Phonemos has been on the market since 2021. While most wiki tools are developed or at least hosted in the USA, Phonemos relies on Switzerland, where it is 100% developed and hosted.

It positions itself as a simple, modern, cost-effective and particularly privacy-savvy tool.

In contrast to many other solutions, Phonemos has many features out of the box. Translations, SSO and intelligent task management are always included.

Phonemos pricing is particularly attractive: users start at CHF 2.50 per month. There is no need to compromise on functionality.

Notion, the new player

Notion is gaining more and more market share and is growing rapidly. That is not surprising either. The tool is minimalistic, very easy to use and is constantly expanding the functions. If you want to use Notion for a larger team, it quickly becomes expensive: The team version costs $10 per month and does not include SSO, for example.

Notion seems like a great tool, but it doesn't offer any options when it comes to data location. For companies that don't want their data in the cloud in the USA, Notion is not an option.

Confluence as a traditional wiki

Confluence can do a lot. The tool is very common worldwide, not least because it was one of the only solutions in this area for a long time.

However, with the end-of-life server variants by 2024, Confluence is no longer an option for many companies. Although there is a data center version, it is only available for organizations with 500 users or more and is therefore not very financially attractive for smaller companies.
